Swans turn down two QPR bids for Jamie Paterson

Swansea City are reported as having turned down two QPR bids for Jamie Paterson as the player continues to be linked with a move away from SA1 in the closing days of the transfer window.

The reasons for Paterson attracting this interest are well known and reported and yesterday Russell Martin said that โ€œA few clubs chancing their arm to see if heโ€™s available for no money or very little money, which isnโ€™t the case because of how well heโ€™s done here and heโ€™s on an 18-month contract now.โ€

With that 18 month contract having Paterson’s name on it, it has been suggested that it would take more than ยฃ500,000 for the Swans to consider a sale of their second leading scorer and, if that is the case, then QPR have clearly fallen short of that mark with these bids to date.

QPR were reported earlier this week as having made Paterson their leading target in the closing stages of the window having been unable to secure a deal for Tom Lawrence of Derby -a player who was also linked with Swansea in the past.

Prior to the midweek draw at QPR of all places on Tuesday Martin said he hoped to welcome Paterson back into the fold next week but with QPR now seemingly making bids it could well be that his future does indeed lie elsewhere.

Any sale of Paterson could allow the Swans to make a move for either Scott Fraser or Harry Darling, two of their targets in this window but targets that are only likely to be completed with player exits.

Pete O’Rourke also suggests that other Championship clubs – Huddersfield, Blackburn and West Brom have been linked in the past – are interested.

With his future still unclear Paterson will play no part in tomorrow’s visit to Hull.

  1. The management is stubborn and naive to not offer him a little better contract and keep him at Swansea city. He is said to be among the least paid, came in for free and performed splendidly. It seems as if he did not thoroughly read the contents of the contract before signing the extention or may be he is reprensted by some a**. Regardless of that the club needs to look at his quality and the need for a goal scoring midfielder and especially, he did not cost a penny.
