There should be little doubt that Cyrus Christie’s displays since arriving in Swansea will mean that any extended stay in SA1 will not be a surprise.

The defender, who joined on loan in January, has put in a series of superb performances in the right wing back position and capped that with a couple of goals along the way for good measure.

It was always suggested that the move for Christie could lead to a permanent stay at the club and there is little doubt that it is already in the mind of Russell Martin and not just for the experience that Christie brings to a relatively young squad as well.

Martin was asked at his press conference on Thursday if he would like to keep Christie for longer and he respondedย โ€œI am hopeful and would love to get him on a permanent basis.

“He is enjoying his football and has taken to what we are doing and loves it here especially the support he gets from the fans.

โ€œWe are out on a limb geographically but the supporters care so much about the club it means so much to the community, it has a different feel about it to a lot of different clubs and we have to try and use that to our advantage.

“Hopefully with Cyrus it will play into our hands โ€“ he needs to continue what he is doing, showing the young guys how to play and be professional. He has had a difficult time recently and come through it and I love working with him and would like to keep himโ€
