As a Man Utd fan playing Old Trafford would be a dream

New Swans goalkeeper Andy Fisher admits that as a goalkeeper starting out on his career he looked up to Edwin Van Der Sar at Manchester United as one of his heroes – helped by the fact that he was a fan of the Red Devils anyway.

Van der sar played more than 250 times for Man Utd under the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson winning multiple trophies in his six years at the club and earning a reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in the world at the time.

And it was that kind of reputation that was not lost on Fisher who was just seven when the Dutch keeper moved to Old Trafford.

Fisher has six Swans appearances under his belt since his January move from MK Dons and Monday night’s win over West Brom was his second clean sheet already for the club.ย  ย He admits that he has settled well into SA1 helped by his admiration for the manager who has now signed him twice in his short career.

โ€œI have settled in really well here,” said Fisher.

“Obviously I knew some of the staff from MK Dons.ย  The skip and Paro have been great and helped me settle in but everyone has been great with me.

โ€œIts not granted I will keep the number one spot I have but it was one of the reasons I came here.ย ย  I know I need to be good with my feet but I feel that is one of my strengths.ย ย  As a keeper you are always involved and in the game.ย ย  It can be risky but I have to trust the players to make the right move for me and look to see what is open to me as options to pass.

โ€œWe are still learning the way that the manger wants us to play but it is clicking and we will continue to get stronger.”

Fisher also added to the words of captain Matt Grimes last week who said that there was a belief within the club that they could get promoted under Martin and he said thatย โ€œIt has always been my dream to play in the Premier League, especially to play at Old Trafford as I was a Man Utd fan when growing up.”
