Peterborough v Swansea City – 14 without a win for the hosts

It is a statistic that Swansea City have a habit of breaking and as we look to put the frustration of the last two games behind us we travel to Peterborough on Wednesday evening with the hosts on the back of a run of form that has seen them take just four points from the last forty-two available.

The Posh look set for an immediate return to League One under new manager Grant McCan and have not picked up a league maximum since they beat Millwall on December 11th and they are currently six points from safety with only ten games left to see.

The Swans are the lowest ranked side left to visit London Road this season and the game is therefore very much seen as a must win game for our hosts as they look to end one of the worst runs of form in the club’s history.

Peterborough have scored just 8 goals in that 14 match run and that should give some comfort to a Swansea defence who can be miserly and generous in equal measure this season.

Peterborough’s 14 match run of woe

The Peterborough Telegraph stated yesterday their belief that “If Posh donโ€™t beat Russell Martinโ€™s men it will surely be back to trips to Accrington Stanley and maybe Fleetwood next season along with EFL Trophy football, and no-one really wants that.

“At least Posh are fighting. Theyโ€™re getting stuck in and having a go. Any attempts at finesse have gone the same way of a trio of Posh loanees, never to be seen again probably, and on this playing surface with these players itโ€™s an understandable if rather ugly approach.

The Swans do have a habit (or at least that is the way that it seems as a fan) of ending dismal runs of form like the one Posh are in the middle of and, given our own current indifferent form, this game is much harder to call than it should be.

When the two sides met earlier in the season the Swans brushed aside their opponents with a 3-0 win and Russell Martin will be looking towards a similar result this time around for his team.

The Swans disappointed massively on Saturday with 76% possession resulting in just one shot on target in ninety minutes and the usual defensive frailty costing us in the early minutes, something that midfielder Flynn Downes is keen to not see repeated.

โ€œItโ€™s disappointing, without doubt, weโ€™ve allowed the game to play into their hands with that early goal,” Downes said via the club’s official website.

โ€œItโ€™s the basics, we cannot concede early doors because we know what they are about.

โ€œWe had a lot of the ball and we had chances, but the early goal has killed us.

“We have to stick together, big time.ย  ย We have had this before and responded with better results and performances. We did it after Sheffield United.

โ€œThe lads are together. We know what we want to do, we have to stick at it and go again on Wednesday.โ€
