Bowyer looking for a Birmingham City reaction

Lee Bowyer will bring his Birmingham City side to SA1 on Saturday looking to put behind him the disappointment of a midweek defeat at home to Middlesbrough leaving the Blues to just two wins in their last 10 outings.

Birmingham have picked up just nine points in that thirty available which leaves our visitors in 20th place in the table but 13 points clear of the safety zone, a gap helped of course by the well publicised points deduction handed to both Derby and Reading this season.

The Swans will go into the game knowing that another home win will see us break the 50 point barrier for the season and Bowyer knows that his side will come up against a tough test in Russell Martin’s Swansea side.

“Russell has done a good job there,” Bowyer said in his press conference on Thursday.

“He has stuck with his principles in playing out from the back and they go long on the odd occasion but mainly its a possession based game.ย  They are a good side.ย  It will be tough they have good people in the final third but when we win the ball there will be opportunities where we can hurt them.”

Bowyer was disappointed with the nature of his side’s defeat on Tuesday and he added “I am looking for a reaction from the players.ย  The thing that hurt me more than anything on Tuesday was the way and the manner we lost the game.ย  They are good lads and on the odd occasion where we have put on a performance like that the reaction in the next game has always been good.

“Back to back games mean you have no time to dwell on it and you can put things right pretty quickly so a quick turnaround can help.

“The focus has been on recovery since the game, it’s all we have had time to do.ย  Friday we will work on our shape and stuff and try and get the players back smiling.

“We are juggling plates again as far as injuries are concerned.ย  ย We will have players playing pout of position but that is where we are at.ย  Its about finding a way of stopping them scoring and putting people on the pitch who can hopefully do well when we have the ball.”

The game at the Swansea.com stadium on Saturday kicks off at 3pm.
