Cyrus Christie is a man that Russell Martin has openly said he would like to keep for a longer spell and with the defender saying that he is enjoying his football again it is starting to look almost certain that his switch from Fulham will be made a permanent one in the summer.
Whilst his former team mates may be heading for a Premier League return, the defender is enjoying a new lease of life after time at the Cottage was limited for him meaning he had to make the move away.
Christie got his chance due to the recall of Ethan Laird by Manchester United and whilst the former loanee has struggled since the switch to Bournemouth it has been anything but a struggle for Christie in SA1.
โIโve come here and Iโm really enjoying myself,โ said Christie when asked at a press conference on Friday.
โIโve felt at home from day one and its massive when you play somewhere where the fans like you and the manager likes you – I think the players have taken to me as well.
“Itโs kind of made me start enjoying football again โ at times it has been tough over the last couple of seasons.
โThe style really suits the way that I play even though itโs an unfamiliar position for me.ย As funny as it sounds, I havenโt really played wing back much, but Iโve come here and adapted to the way the manager plays.
โItโs a transition period, the way the manager plays is very different to a lot of other teams and the lads have had to adapt, but I think weโve shown on many occasions how good we are.
โItโs been a bit inconsistent, but thatโs down to us as players. The manager can tell us from the side line, but when we’re out there we have to be a lot smarter at times.”
