Leeds United are being touted for a summer move for Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes should England international Kalvin Phillips leave Elland Road for pastures new.
A report in The Times suggest that Downes is one of the players the Leeds hierarchy have earmarked although how easy it would be to do a deal after the fall out from the Dan James loan signing is questionable.
Downes who signed from Ipswich for around ยฃ1m has been a standout in a largely below par season under Russell Martin and interest in him was likely in the future although there would be surprise if it was to come this early.
The midfielder has largely been a consistent presence in the centre of midfield and has sometimes slotted in as a third centre half when needs must (or Russell Martin felt like channelling his inner Pep).
It’ll be interesting to see whether his form will generate genuine interest in the summer. Leeds are the first to be touted with a move although as always time will tell.
It would surely take a decent sum – with Phillips being suggested for a ยฃ60m move – of ยฃ7-10m considering Downes’ age and potential.
