Gareth Bale has quipped with Cardiff City manager Steve Morison to “make sure you beat the Swans” to get one over on his Wales counterpart Connor Roberts.
Roberts certainly doesn’t hide his Swans colours and it’s not difficult to imagine that there has been plenty of banter back and forth between him and Real Madrid man Bale as the game edged closer over the international break.
Morison was also asked questions as to whether there was a potential move for the Wales star to Cardiff come the summer; something he describes at this moment in time as a “fantasy.”
The Bluebirds manager told Wales Online: “I saw him (Bale) every day he was here in Wales camp, I said ‘hello’ to him every day, all he said to me was โMake sure you beat Swansea!โ, that’s the only comment he made to me.
“Outside of that thereโs been no conversation about that. I’m not someone who is going to get caught up in something that is โ at the minute โ a fantasy.
“Until someone rings me and says Gareth Bale wants to join Cardiff then itโs an absolute pipe dream – nothing to worry about. Otherwise you’re going to get caught up in something that could be absolute nonsense.”
Russell Martin also got in on the pre match fun and games with Roberts messaging the Swans boss ahead of his press conference to give his best wishes as they look to make it a first ever derby double.
“Iโve just had a text just before (the press conference) Connor saying heโs thinking of us and he hopes we win,” revealed Martin.
“I went to the game [Wales v Austria] and saw a couple of Swansea supporters and everyone sent their best wishes. Itโs a big game for people from both camps.”
Kick-off is at 3pm today.
