Rob DaviesYesterday’s refereeing performance was as comical as it was poor at times with Tim Robinson refusing to give a number of pivotal decisions, namely the first half penalty shout and a potential red card for Ryan Allsop.
But it isn’t the first time that the Swans have been on the end of some questionable decisions by Robinson dating back to a miserable night by the Thames in 2020.
Thanks to “Neath_Jack and waveydavey” on the Planet Swans forum it brought back some unhappy memories of that trip to London just before Covid lockdowns hit the world.
That night the Swans were denied three good penalty shouts against Fulham only to see a half shout for the hosts awarded – which was promptly missed by Aleksandr Mitrovic.
Andre Ayew’s appeal in the first half was particularly strong but Robinson was unmoved throughout despite the fervent appeals by the Swans players (as seen above).
The only solace came when Mitrovic missed the only awarded penalty, although the reprieve didn’t last for long as the Serbian striker netted a stoppage time winner to give the hosts a 1-0 win.
Steve Cooper was particularly angry post match and vowed to go over and above in reporting the referee for his poor performance.
“The first one was clear in the first half when the keeper brought him (Ayew) down. And in the second half when Denis Odoi brought him down,” said Cooper.
“And then it’s handball, the full-back, his arm was in an unnatural position, and then the one he gives, Connor (Roberts) doesn’t even know where he is.
“We’ve just said we have to report this further and beyond the normal reporting system of referees’ performances which we do online, but we have to take it a bit further, because that cannot happen.
“We’re just looking at how that works. We need to help the game.
“If we don’t share our feelings politely and respectfully, although that’s quite difficult to feel at the moment, then we won’t be helping the game.”
Clearly the report didn’t do much – Robinson is just as poor in 2022 as he was in 2020.
