Barnsley boss: We have players that can hurt Swansea

Barnsley boss Poya Asbaghi is confident that his team have enough talent to hurt an in form Swansea side as they travel to South Wales today.

The Tykes are in grave danger of relegation but have seen an upturn of form of late although they still sit 8 points adrift of Reading in 21st place with six games to play.

Russell Martin’s team meanwhile are looking upwards after a strong recent run which has seen three straight wins and they haven’t won four on the bounce since 2019.

Nonetheless Asbaghi is hopeful his team can get a result on the road to push themselves closer to safety.

The return fixture was his first match in charge and it was a rather dour affair with chances few and fair between until Olivier Ntcham netted late on before Jamie Patterson settled it at 2-0.

Asbaghi told the Barnsley official site: “It was a very disappointing performance (the loss against Millwall), the second half in particular. We conceded three goals that were easily prevented.

“It’s about determination and winning your individual battles.

“We can’t see that kind of effort again otherwise we’ve given up already. If we perform that way in Swansea, against a team who play as they do, we will be beaten just as badly.”

On the Swans: “They’re a very unique team in this league, there aren’t many sides who play this way and we know we aren’t going to beat them at possession, at keeping the ball.

“But what we can do is work harder than they can to make sure that when we do have the ball, we punish them.

“And we have players with the talent to hurt them. But again, we must give 100% and if we get the win we need, then it can be perfect for us in terms of momentum, to hopefully give us a chance to keep our season alive.”
