Cooper – That was tough to take

There can be nothing worse as a manager than watching from the touchlines and seeing your team concede a last minute goal that snatches a top 6 position away from you so you can imagine how Steve Cooper was feeling when he talked about that last minute goal against Leeds.

It is probably worse when you are thinking that had you made a couple of substitutions ten minutes or so earlier it could have been so much different.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing in any profession but maybe more so in football when you have the eyes of thousands of fans watching you assessing every potential mistake.

Cooper must have had some positives to draw on with Swansea getting it right for so long against the league leaders but ultimately it was that goal from Hernandez and the lack of substitutions that was the main discussion point amongst the fans after the game even if it wasn’t what the manager was focusing on.

We are really disappointed, to concede like we did that late on is tough to take.

There were a lot of good bits in the performance. I would have liked us to keep the ball better, but it’s a tough game and there are tired legs against a very good team.

I would have liked a bit more of the ball second half for us to keep it better, and they did give us chances to get on to their defending players.

“But things are as they were in the table.

“If we had won, nothing would have been decided. It was all to play for, and it still is.

On the opposite side Marcelo Bielsa was naturally delighted to see his side move within touching distance of the Premier League and was clear that Pablo’s goal was one that he felt his side deserved: “The match was very close with only a few chances. As the match progressed our possibilities grew. We deserved to score in the last 30 minutes and get what we got in the end.

“I cannot enjoy this yet. The only thing I can enjoy is the last objective, if we get it.”
