Cooper: Swansea will be a tough test for Nottingham Forest

If the worse case scenario is put to Steve Cooper he will have a third successive crack at the Championship play offs next month but what the former Swans boss really wants is an automatic promotion place, something which is totally within their own grasp after the midweek results.

Cooper will welcome his former team to his new home – the City Ground – tomorrow knowing that if they can piece together the first of three successive wins they could be set for a return to the Premier League for the first time this century.

It was 1999 when Forest last fell out of the top flight but Cooper has turned a side that got 4 points from their first 8 games this season into serious promotion contenders and the Swans know just how tough Saturday’s test could be.

Cooper triumphed 4-1 on his return to the Swansea.com stadium before Christmas but that does not mean that he is about to underestimate the Swans ahead of tomorrow’s clash as he explained at his press conference on Thursday.

“We don’t want to stand still with that,” said Cooper. “We’ve got to continue to play well and work hard and continue to be as together as we can.

“This league throws up tough tests each and every week and Swansea will be no different.

“The City Ground is a special place on any given home game, regardless of whether it’s the first or the last game of the season. It’s a real coming together when we’re at The City Ground and a sense of belonging which is great and we look forward to being back again this weekend.

“Game in, game out the atmosphere has been incredible and hopefully that will be the case again this weekend. We don’t underestimate the honour that it is to play at home and Saturday will be no different.

“Togetherness can only be a good thing, it’s something you should never take for granted and has to be be authentic. Our aim is to continue to build on that and the stronger relationship we can have with the supporters the better.”
