The Swans have secured the signing of two new central defenders ahead of next season.
Highly rated Middlesbrough youngster Nathan Wood has joined for an undisclosed fee after growing frustrated with the lack of gametime in the North East.
Also signing up is former Braintree defender Wasiri Williams, 22, on an initial one year deal with the option to extend further – he will initially be available for the first team and the U23 squad.
Wood will undoubtedly be the player most likely in contention for first team action and has played for all the England youth teams – captaining some of them – except for the U21 team so comes with good pedigree.
Known for his pace and athleticism, the 20 year old could be an astute addition to a defence that conceded far too many goals last season and Swans boss Russell Martin is delighted to secure his signature.
Martin pursued him whilst manager at MK Dons so ends a two year interest in the player.
โNathan is a player I have wanted for two years now, I have been close to signing him a few times when I was at MK Dons,โ the Swans boss told the official site.
“So, to actually have him here is great and I think he will add a lot to us in terms of his athleticism, and he brings a huge hunger and desire to play games.
โHe is very composed for such a young man and he possesses all the tools you need for a centre-half. He brings physical presence, height and power and the right mentality.
โHe has an incredible pedigree. He has probably got a little bit lost, for want of a better word, over the last year or two and had some difficult moments.
โBut I think those experiences will be the making of him, he is absolutely desperate to get down to work with his new team-mates and we are really looking forward to working with him.โ
