Swans ready to let Ogbeta leave

Reports surfaced yesterday evening that the Swans have accepted a bid for one of their January signings in Nathanael Ogbeta although the defender is said to have turned down a move to the unnamed League One club.

Several sources have suggested this to be the case which brings into stark reality some of the January transfers that were made and the subsequent departure from the club of Mark Allen.

Ogbeta was signed by the Swans on the final day of the January transfer window but spent some of last season injured and barely seemed to get a look in even when fit which made the signing look strange.

The England youth international spent 10 years on the books at Manchester City, the majority of which took in the period where former Swans sporting director Mark Allen was the Citizensโ€™ academy chief.

Ogbeta โ€“ whose sister Naomi is a five-time defending British triple jump champion and European Under-20 Championship medalist – joined League One Shrewsbury in January 2021, and has won praise for his showings.

He made 58 appearances for the Shrews, scoring two goals and contributing three assists.

The reports of the Swans ready to let Ogbeta know came on a day when it seemed certain that Flynn Downes is on the verge of his own departure from the club with Joe Allen seemingly set for a move back to SA1.

We await further confirmation of any news on which clubs are interested in Ogbeta but it also seems likely that he will not be here at the start of the new season in just four weeks time.
