No Brighton interest in Joel Piroe

Brighton are not pursuing Swans striker Joel Piroe this summer according to a journalist on the South Coast.

The Swans star has been linked with a host of clubs although there doesn’t yet seem to be a firm bid for the former PSV striker, with the club asking at least ยฃ20m for his signature.

With Brighton’s Neal Maupay suggested to be on his way out it leaves Graham Potter in the market for a centre forward with a potent striker widely regarded as the missing piece of what is a very good team the former Swan has assembled.

But according to Andy Naylor of the Athletic that won’t be Piroe with an emphatic answer when asked if there was interest from the Seagulls.

With just two days until the season starts at Rotherham any move from now on would put Russell Martin’s plans in real chaos although you’d expect the Swansea boss, along with the recruitment team, to have all bases covered should any of his first team regulars leave.

The fact that Flynn Downes left for a reasonable sum has eased pressure on the club’s finances although there still remains a need to move players out before more can come in.

One of those exits is likely to be Ryan Bennett who was omitted from the squad numbers announcement earlier this week although it appears Jay Fulton has fought his way back into contention after regular appearances during pre season.
