Phil SumblerThe Swans will open the 2020/21 season with a trip to Preston on September 12th before starting their Liberty Stadium campaign by welcoming Birmingham a week later, ending the month with a trip to Wycombe who are playing at this level for the first time in their history.
The fixture list confirmed the Swans plans for the next 8 months when the fixtures were released at 9am this morning with the season due to start broadly a month later than normal due to the recent lockdown meaning an extended version of the 2019/20 season which saw us beaten at the play off semi final stage.
The South Wales derby fixtures will take place on the weekend of 12th December (at Cardiff) and weekend of 20th March ( at the Liberty) which could be interesting with one very likely to be behind closed doors but the other possibly being after the stadiums are re-open for spectators again.
For those that keep an eye on festive fixtures – then it is QPR away on Boxing Day and Reading at home three days later whilst there are no New Year’s Day games scheduled at this point in time. The Swans Liberty Stadium season is poised to end when Derby visit on 1st May and we are scheduled to end the campaign away at relegated Watford a week later.
The bigger debate with the fixtures this season is how much of the season will be behind closed doors especially with the Welsh government heading towards a more cautious approach to return compared to their English counterparts.
Any football in front of a crowd this side of the New Year will be on a very restricted basis and that is anticipated to carry on into 2021 as well.
