Phil SumblerThe Swans have completed yet another signing in this transfer window with the acquisition of Jamal Lowe on a three year contract from Wigan for an “undisclosed” fee which has been rumoured to be in the region of £800,000.
Wigan’s financial plight was always likely to see someone of Lowe’s nature depart during this window and it is rumoured that the Swans fought off competition from Stoke, Millwall and Preston for his signature thanks to the work of Steve Cooper in selling South Wales as a good destination for the player.
Lowe played in all of Wigan’s 48 games last season, scoring 6 times having joined last August from Portsmouth for another undisclosed fee. The Latics were relegated thanks to their 12 point deduction for entering administration towards the end of the season following yet another takeover.
Prior to that in two and a half years at Fratton Park he scored 30 goals at a ratio of broadly 1 every 4 games which could make him a very valuable addition to a side that is starting to look quite strong thanks to our summer captures to date.
Lowe joins Korey Smith, Freddie Woodman, Marc Guehi and Morgan Gibbs-White as new additions to the Liberty this season whilst new contracts for Wayne Routledge and Kyle Naughton give additional experience to a young squad but one that looks capable of being competitive next time around.
The stature and size of the club is something you cannot escape.

Lowe started his career at Barnet but dropped into non league football following their relegation from League Two and it was only when Portsmouth came calling in January 2017 that he came back into football league but his pedigree is good, his goal scoring record is strong and this is a signing that does show a level of ambition from the Swans for the season ahead.
