Blackpool boss – We should have been 3 or 4 up

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton says his side should have been 3 or 4 goals to the good before the Swans scored the crucial goal to seal a 1-0 win.

His team missed a second half penalty – or rather Andy Fisher thwarted Jerry Yates – in a game where the Swans were largely good value for the win.

It was nervy at times particularly for around fifteen minutes in the second half but there were definitely positive signs ahead of the remainder of the Championship season.

โ€œWe probably showed them a bit too much respect in the first-half in the sense of not being brave enough or aggressive enough when to go and jump and put the press on,โ€ Appleton said.

โ€œHaving said that, I still felt in control of the situation. But when we turned the ball over we werenโ€™t clinical enough, we were a bit messy.

“I made the change at half-time bringing Shayne (Lavery) on just to give us that bit of pace and energy in that frontline.

โ€œI thought the lads were outstanding in the second-half. We should have been 3 or 4-0 up Iโ€™d suggest before the killer blow.

โ€œThose type of things can happen with the penalty, some you score and some you miss. To be fair to Jerry, he reacted really well and it didnโ€™t affect his performance after that because he dusted himself down very well.

โ€œThere were a lot of big moments in the game and opportunities you expect the net to bulge and it didnโ€™t quite happen.”
