Cooper delighted by work so far

It is certainly understandable at the moment why Steve Cooper feels that the Swans have had a good transfer window.ย  In the little over four weeks since our season ended at Brentford, Cooper has been busy in the markets bringing in five players and securing a couple of more experienced ones on new deals.

New contracts for Wayne Routledge and Kyle Naughton have been added to by the returning Freddie Woodman and Marc Guehi on loan.ย  ย On top of that we have seen three new additions – Korey Smith and Jamal Lowe on permanent deals whilst Morgan Gibbs-White is a season long loan signing from Wolves.

All the players meet the criteria for what Cooper seems to be aiming for at Swansea and that is a heavy reliance on strong young talent mixed with some experienced heads to ensure that they benefit from what they can bring to the table.

I don’t imagine there will be too much more business to be done at the Liberty ahead of the season opener in two weeks at Preston although some of that may depend on whether there are departures for any of the players who have been linked with a move away this summer.

Joe Rodon, Andre Ayew and Bersant Celina are all players that have been discussed as maybe having a future away from Swansea although there appears to be nothing more than press speculation for any of them at the moment.

That aside we probably – even with these all staying – need strengthening with another central defender and a striker just to balance the squad up a little better but there is certainly cause for optimism amongst the supporters that we could build on last season’s play off place.

We have got players in with Freddie and Marc returning, Korey and Jamal joining on permanent deals and Morgan coming on loan, while Kyle has committed to a new contract.

Thereโ€™s a lot of work going on behind the scenes here, and fans can be assured that we are always working hard to try and improve the squad.

I think we’ve brought in a good mix of players in terms of their ages and experience, but the key thing is we think they have the right ability and mentality to play for this club. – Steve Cooper

The Swans were tipped for a top two finish yesterday by a member of Southampton’s groundstaff despite falling to a 7-1 combined defeat in four 30 minute ‘quarters’ at St Mary’s yesterday.
