Celina nears Liberty exit

When the squad number list is released and your shirt number has been handed to someone else it comes as no surprise as a fan to see that the player concerned is being linked with a move away from the Liberty after what can only be described as an anti climatic second season.

There is little doubt in my mind that there is a good player in Bersant Celina.ย  We saw enough of that in his first season at the club to know that to be true.ย  But second time around, and under Steve Cooper, all too often we saw a player who seemed to be sulking at his lack of time in the first team and when he was used he looked not just totally ineffective but totally disinterested as well.

I think we all probably knew around Christmas time that Celina would be one of the departures from the Liberty in an upcoming transfer window and whilst it was very easy to call for his return to the side when things weren’t going well the reality was Celina no longer wanted to be at the club and it showed during his limited game time.

And with the release today of the squad numbers that saw Celina’s number 10 shirt handed to Andre Ayew – in a big clue that the Ghanian international himself may stay for another season? – so reports confirming interest from Dijon were no real surprise.

BBC Sport reported that an official move had been made and it is believed that the Swans would happily sell whilst looking to recoup the ยฃ3m we paid for the player.ย  Whether we achieve that remains to be seen but one thing looks certain and that is that we have seen the last of Celina in a Swansea shirt.
