Michael Obafemi is not ready to return to the Swansea City squad after his failed transfer move to Burnley in the summer transfer window according to Russell Martin.
The Swans striker was given time off after deadline day to refocus ready for the rest of the season but he’s clearly not done enough to return to the first team squad for selection.
It’s a further disappointment for the club who supported the player when he had similar issues last season and was known to be somewhat problematic at his former team Southampton.
Three offers were submitted by Burnley on deadline day for the Irish international who scored 13 last term – only 1 so far this season – but a deal could not be struck between the two clubs.
Obafemi signing for over a million pounds last summer was a risk the club felt was worthwhile and any of the figures discussed by Burnley would have seen a profit over the twelve month period. Perhaps the club are now looking back and thinking it was the right thing to sell?
Russell Martin in particular backed the player in the second half of the campaign after he previously criticised Obafemi for a poor attitude in training which led to him not being selected for some time until he got a breakthrough start against Blackburn Rovers – a game in which he scored earlier this year.
Talking ahead of the game against Sheffield United tonight – another which Obafemi will miss – Martin said: โMichael will be back in the squad as soon as heโs ready to be back in the squad.
โSo thatโs where weโre at. It is what it is.
โHe obviously had the turbulent few days during the transfer window. After that, itโs down to him to put himself back in, to show us that heโs in the right place to contribute to the group. As soon as he is, heโll be back in and ready to go.โ
What next for the Swans’ hitman?
Martin did sat Obafemi will be in the squad today if he’s ready, so I wouldn’t rule him out just yet.
Well it just goes to show that them two Levien and Kaplan have no idea on how to run a football club just look at the club they own over there in the States DC UNITED bottom of the league and even with Rooney in charge loosing game after game but them two still pour money into it more than they do with our club the Swans just goes to show were thyere loyalty,s lie .
