Bodde Claims Swans Goal

Confusion arose after the ball rebounded back off the post and whilst it initially was given to Scotland and then maybe an own goal, the Dutch midfielder declared that he had the final touch before the ball crossed the line.

The goal – if credited – will be the 8th of the season for the midfield maestro – an impressive tally when you consider two bans for red cards have been served as well.  And you would also take the assumption that not too many people argue with Ferrie Bodde – well not too many people who think they can win the argument anyway.   Speaking after the game, Bodde told the Western Mail “I managed to get a touch on the ball before it crossed the line.

“I think it’s better if I have it or it will go down as a Port Vale own goal.

“It’s better for him – and better for me!”

If, as expected, the goal is given to Bodde, it will be his second in as many games and his seventh league goal this term.

“The gaffer said to me that he wants a goal and two assists from every game,” laughed the Dutchman.

“We had a little joke about it, but I am just happy to do my best for the team.

“The first half was not very good, they have to survive and we want to keep our position at the top of the league.

“So there was a lot of pressure on us and for them there was nothing to lose.

“It was vital that we were the first team to score, then they had to come at us and there would be more space for us to play.

“After that we were able to control the game a lot more, which was very good.

“We are happy with a 2-0 win because it makes the long trip home much easier.

“If we won every game 1-0 in an ugly fashion, I would still be happy, but we’ve been winning a lot of games playing good football.

“We want to win all the games for the pride of the team, we want to be the strongest team in the league.”
