Roberto Martinez

“Overall, when you don’t take your chances and then concede a sloppy goal, you don’t win football games

“We created enough clear cut chances early on to win the game. Our movement was good, but our finishing was poor and it allowed Willy (Gueret) to make some good saves.

“It’s always seems to be the case that when a player goes back to his old club he has the game of his life. But I’m pleased for Willy.

“At the moment though I’m more disappointed with the sloppy goal we gave away. Our standards are far higher than that.

“But it’s far from over yet. We will look forward to the challenge of the second-leg and we are still very confident of getting to Wembley.

“I knew going into tonight’s game that it would be a 180-minute affair and nothing would be decided until we went to their place.

“We’ve got to the area final and top of the league because we’ve used the whole squad,” added Roberto. “And I’ll continue to do that.”

Paul Ince

“It was a great performance in the second half, in the first half I thought we stood off them and showed them a bit too much respect.

“If it wasn’t for Willy Gueret we could have been two or three nil down at half-time.

“I told the lads at half-time that we were a top of the table side too and in the second half we played in the way we know we can.

“JJ could have scored a second so I’m a bit disappointed, it wouldn’t have won the tie but it would have given us some more breathing space.

“It was important for us not to get beat but we’ve gone one better than that. It’s not something for us to protect because we won’t just sit with five at the back in the second leg but it gives us a good chance.

“Swansea are a very good footballing side and to come here and get a win and a clean sheet is great for the lads.

“It was always going to be a yardstick of how far we’ve come as a team. We’ve come to the best team in League 1 and in the second half we were the best team so the sooner we can get out of League 2 and come to places like this, the better.”
