The Swans are flying high again in the Championship and Swansea product Ollie Cooper is a key reason for that after he scored his first league goal in the Swans 2-1 win over Sunderland that gave us a fourth consecutive Championship win.
Cooper was aided slightly by the help of a deflection but it did not take away the elation of seeing the ball hitting the back of the net and setting the team on the way to that win that sees us move to within three points of the league leaders.
It has capped an incredible few weeks for Cooper and the Swans with the young midfielder showing himself to be a vital part of Russell Martin’s squad and hopefully – from our point of view – a fixture for many years to come.
So it was little surprise that he talked up the goal after the game and reflected back on what he hoped would be the first goal of many.
“My first league goal has been a long time coming so I’m delighted to finally get the ball in the back of the net,” Cooper told the official Swans site.
“I think we’re a young group and I feel like game management is something we’ve definitely improved,” he said.
“You can see that in the last couple of games. Not only have we won them, we’ve scored goals late so hopefully, we’ve turned a corner.
“To get a win is what we needed originally, and then we just take it game by game but to go into a game on the back of five wins in six is incredible. You just go into games with confidence in yourself and in the team.
“The fans are massive in every game we play, they create an amazing atmosphere and that really helps you on the pitch.
“We need to keep this going for as long as possible.”
