Scotland’s Relief At New Diagnosis

Scotland had already scored his 16th league goal of the season on Saturday to move him within one of Jermaine Beckford at the top of the League One scoring charts and to take his total goal tally to the season to a hugely impressive 21.  But with the initial diagnosis of the injury being a broken toe it threatened his pursuit of more goals with a spell on the sidelines seemingly beckoning.

But things are going right for Swansea at the moment and a Sunday bulletin downgraded the break to a dislocation and Scotland should be back on Friday to face Millwall as the Swans go in pursuit of equalling a league record.

“I thought my season was over so it’s a big relief for me,” he told the Western Mail. “Now I should be back playing soon and it’s really good news.

“I thought that was it for my season and I was worried I might not be able to keep my goal tally going. I’m on track for a good total and hopefully now I can keep it going and get lots more goal.”

He continued, “I don’t really remember too much about it happening. But I went down immediately because it was so painful.

“I was fearing the worst straight away. It really felt like a break.

“But now Friday’s game is a real possibility. The doctor put my toe back in place and, while it’s quite sore at the moment, it should be OK in a few days. We will just have to wait and see.

“It doesn’t worry me that much,” he explained. “It was a battle out there on Saturday and you expect those sort of tackles.

“I’m scoring goals that win matches so of course defenders keep an eye on me and want to stop me. Teams some times want to kick me about, but it doesn’t bother me and I won’t change the way I play or let it affect me.”

One thing that Scotland has missed out on though is a trip to Spain with his team mates but that doesn't worry the striker who added “I really wanted to go, if I’m honest. We never get to go to these Champions League games and I’ve never been to Spain, let alone the Nou Camp.

“You get these disappointments and hopefully I will get to go another time. But the most important thing is that my foot is OK, we got three important points and hopefully we can push on from there.”

And if Scotland were to hit back on Friday with anything more than a single goal he could find himself drawing level with the best tally ever that his predecessor managed – Lee Trundle's best return was 23 goals back in 2004/5
