Roberto Supports Cardiff’s Cause

Cardiff face a semi-final showdown in three weeks with Barnsley at Wembley for a place in the Cup Final in May with the winners of that final game representing England in Europe.  But because of Cardiff's membership of the Welsh FA, they are currently ineligible to take that place although the row still rumbles on with both Michel Platini and the FA themselves promising to look into it if it becomes more of a problem (if Cardiff win)

But the Swansea boss believes that Cardiff should be allowed that place if they earn it, meaning as well that the same rule would also apply to his Swansea and Wrexham if it ever came to that situation.

Speaking to the News of the World, Martinez said "It's crazy that Cardiff won't qualify for the UEFA Cup if they win the FA Cup.   The whole situation has left be stunned because it's so unfair.   If Cardiff win the Cup and the FA stops them playing in Europe then UEFA have to step in and find in Cardiff's favour.

"People talk about fair play – but it's not fair Swansea, Cardiff and Wrexham have no way of playing in Europe.   It's one of the most unfair situations in world football.  We can't qualify with the Welsh FA and we can't qualify with the English FA – it's a crazy situation.

"We needed a Welsh club to reach this position so the issue can finally be resolved.  This is not just about Cardiff, it also involves us and Wrexham.  This issue with the FA is very important for all three of us.   The three Welsh clubs must be given a route into Europe.

"We don't have the opportunity to get there with the FAW Premier Cup so we should be able to qualify via the FA Cup and the Carling Cup.

"I'm sure something will now be done and it should be in place for next season."
