Doncaster were also beaten on Saturday whilst Carlisle needed a late equaliser to snatch a point at Swindon – results which meant despite the defeat the Swans lost no ground on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, last season's player of the year said “This time of the season there’s going to be points dropped and people will be looking around all over the table
“There’s going to be twists and turns until the end of the season, that’s part of the game.
“We’ve lost here, but, on the bright side, Doncaster and Carlisle didn’t win.
“If you go on a bad run it gives other teams around you a bit of hope and they will think they’ve had a chance to close on us.
“But we’ve said all along we can’t look at other teams. We’ve got to do the right things and not be looking over our shoulder.
“We’ve got to concentrate on keeping the belief and do the things which has got us where we are.
“One point from nine is not good form, but we’ve got a lot of games coming up and we must roll up our sleeves at Bristol Rovers,” he said.
“We haven’t had a run like this all season so you can understand what the fans will be thinking.
“But as players you can’t get too down or you’ll struggle in the next game.”
