“Last season we’d have lost that game”

Swans boss Russell Martin was disappointed with several aspects of the draw at Bristol City but sees it as a welcome point on the board.

His team were below par for much of the game until Olivier Ntcham netted his fourth goal of the season to see the Swans travel back over the Severn Bridge with a draw.

Martin admits that some of the younger players were perhaps guilty of over celebrating the Cardiff win and says the lessons will be learned after a below par first twenty minutes.

The Swans head to Preston on Tuesday for another tough away game looking to further cement their position in the play-offs.

Martin told the official site: โ€œWe have a lot of young guys and I think the emotion of Sunday (victory over Cardiff), took its toll and maybe a few of the young ones over-celebrated a bit.

โ€œIt is an important message and learning experience for us.

โ€œThe sort of run we have been on causes its own problems because teams are keen to start well and show their intent against us.

โ€œWe were not clean enough, we did not have enough intensity and we did not move the ball quickly enough.

โ€œI was disappointed with that, but the way we bounced back after the goal kicked us into life a little bit.

โ€œWe did not create a huge amount in the first half, we had some good moments but the conviction and quality was not there.

โ€œBut they stayed brave and I am really proud of that. I think this time last season we would have lost that game.

โ€œBy the end of the game we were disappointed we had not won it because we showed more energy and intensity and I think if it goes on longer we win it.

โ€œBut any point in this division is valuable, particularly away from home against a team who are really fighting”

Can the Swans secure an agreement for second loan with Brighton?

There is little doubt that Carl Rushworth was one of the highlights of a pretty dismal season in SA1.ย  ย Clean sheets and a host of great saves were more than enough to give the on-loan goalkeeper a triple win in last week’s awards dinner but with the season is now…
