Focus the key for the Swans as Wigan arrive in SA1

The Swans will sign off their home matches ahead of the World Cup this afternoon when Wigan arrive in SA1 looking to end a run that has seen them lose five on the bounce in the league.

The Latics are in the relegation zone of the Championship and battling against an immediate return to League One after their promotion last year.

After a great run of form that saw us win five in six games it has been a relatively disappointing week for Russell Martin after gaining just a one point return from the trips to Bristol City and Preston so he will be looking at these as a key three points in the push towards promotion and certainly to keep pace with the current play off places.

Matt Grimes will be an absentee this afternoon as he misses a league game for the first time since October 2020 giving Martin plenty to think about as he faces his own first league game without his captain.

The Swans boss knows its all about focus at this stage of the season especially as there are now just three games left before the division takes that break for the World Cup that starts later this month.

Wigan are much better travellers than they are in front of their home fans with thirteen of their nineteen points achieved on the road and Martin says that, despite their league position, anything can happen at this level.

โ€œI donโ€™t think it matters who you play in this division. Obviously, theyโ€™re going through a tough period. I think during tough periods though people stand up to it together and I’m sure they will,โ€ Martin told the official site.

โ€œThey achieved something really brilliant last season. When you have done something like that as a group together, it counts for a lot. Theyโ€™ll be desperate to come here and get a result.

โ€œWe need to make sure that weโ€™re fully aware of the context of their situation, but also play our own game. Weโ€™ve been in really good form at home and good form in general in terms of performance.”
