Bournemouth Decision Angers De Vries

De Vries ran straight to the linesman after Bournemouth scored from the corner and earned himself a yellow card for his troubles.   And, to make matters worse, less than a minute later the visitors scored again to postpone the Swans promotion party and hand Bournemouth a vital lifeline points wise, even if it proves to be irrelevant with the club facing extinction.

But it was the decision that angered De Vries who carried on his protests after the final whistle and, arguably could have seen red, as he hassled the officials before throwing his gloves to the ground in frustration before being pulled away by a member of Swansea staff

“I’ve never felt so angry before,” said De Vries during his after match interviews. “I feel like I’ve been robbed.

“The linesman made a joke of a decision with the corner. The ball was nowhere near out.

“We shouldn’t have conceded from the corner, but then the pressure was on. To have that after a foolish decision from a linesman in unbelievable.

He continued, “I went up to the linesman and he was smiling after he gave the first decision. That’s just annoying.

“I know as a linesman or referee you have a really difficult job and you can’t do everything perfect. But, in such situations, when it’s nowhere near out, if he can’t see it perfectly, he shouldn’t give the advantage to them.

“I’m a terrible loser and even in training I can’t stand losing. Especially after you lose like this in the last few minutes when we needed the points to secure promotion.

“We played well and had control of the game from the first minute. But we should have scored a second goal, just to kill them off.

“We just have to pick ourselves up and make sure we get some points at Carlisle. It’s as simple as that.”

The Swans would have been promoted if they had held onto their lead on Saturday and Doncaster had lost but late goals from Rovers to earn a point and Carlisle to earn a victory means the Swans once seemingly unassailable lead could be cut to just a point if they lose at Carlisle on Tuesday.  Victory, on the other hand would leave them just a point from promotion and within touching distance of the title.

And De Vries may even have calmed down by then……..
