Alan Tate moved to right back on Tuesday night with Ashley Williams making his debut in the centre of defence – a line-up that seems likely to be repeated on Saturday at Priestfield.
"You've got to remember that Angel was the only outfield player to have played every game and that throughout his career he has been used to playing 30 or 32 games a year," Martinez told the Evening Post.
"Angel felt his groin and we decided quite late to pull him out. All of a sudden there are bigger demands on him compared to the rest of his career and, while he wanted to be available, sometimes the body tells you enough is enough.
"We will see how Angel feels over the next couple of days, but we knew had Ashley Williams to step in on Tuesday and I thought he took his opportunity very well."
1500 Jacks are expected to make the trip to Kent for the weekend with a similar – if not higher – number watching on the screens back at the Liberty Stadium
