Bauza Not Ready For Hero Worship

Bauza was the toast of Swansea on Saturday night as he struck twice in the dying seconds of the first half at Priestfield to earn the Swans a promotion and leave them just one win away from sewing up the League title.

He capitalised twice after the keeper spilled two long-ish range shots from Andy Robinson both to the same effect to turn what appeared to be a certain first half deficit into a lead that they were never to surrender.

And coupled with Carlisle's defeat to Leeds earlier in the day then it was a perfect Saturday for the Swans who also surpassed the club record tally for points in a season to boot as well.

But Bauza insisted that he was not the hero – merely the man who was on hand to score the two goals as he said after the game “I’m not the hero, this was a team thing

“I’m just happy to be a part of what we have done together.

“I want to be a part of Swansea and enjoy this promotion with the fans and other players. I’m just so happy we have been able to finish the job.

“When the final whistle blew, I just jumped up off the bench and looked at the stand to see all the fans jumping and celebrating. I just wanted to join in with them.

“It’s one of the best feelings I have ever had in my footballing life. Now I want to keep having more of those experiences.

“Getting two goals makes me very happy,” he said. “This was my chance to show what I can do and I think I grabbed it with both hands.

“The first goal was all about belief. Sometimes when someone challenges the keeper, the referee gives a foul, but I kept believing and I got my reward.

“I’m really pleased with the second one. I chested it down well and it was a good finish.

“It was the right time to score as well. It let us go into the dressing room for half-time knowing we had a good chance to get promoted.

“I like to work hard for the team and I like to do a job for the gaffer. It was tough for me, but I did my best out there.

“After being out of the team for a while it’s hard to come back in and be at your best. I think I did well though.

“I want to be in Swansea next year and I think the club wants me here so I don’t think there are going to be any problems,” he explained. “I want to stay, but I haven’t signed anything yet. Hopefully, it’s just a matter of time.

“Getting promotion is a bit weird for me because when I first game here I asked Roberto, ‘What do you want to do?’ He then said to me, ‘We just want to get promoted.’

“That one of the main reasons I came to this club. And now it has happened.

“We are exactly where we want to be – in the Championship. Now it all starts again in a new life."

Andy Robinson though was quicker to heap praise on his team mate

“When we went 1-0 down, I thought, ‘Here we go again, always the Swansea way.’ But I told Bauza before the game to be a match winner and he has taken his goals tremendously.

“In a tough game, that was the difference. The defence was brilliant after that and who cares how we got the result, we have won promotion.

“It’s amazing to know Championship football will be coming to the Liberty next season,” he added. “We have worked our socks off all season, played some breathtaking football and we have really earned this promotion.

“It’s been a pure joy to play in this team. We deserve to go up as champions and that’s what we are going to work towards over the next three weeks.

“I’m just ecstatic really. I love this club, it’s fans and now I’ve had two promotions in five years here.”
