Monk Ready For Final Push

After being expected to miss just one game – Huddersfield on Sat David's Day – it has been one setback after another for one of the leading candidates for the player of the year – a decision that will be announced on 30 April at the dinner at the Liberty Stadium.

However, Monk has a more immediate target and that is to get his place back in the side although you suspect that if (when?) the silverware arrives at the Liberty Stadium it will be Monk who is picking up the trophy ahead of his good friend Alan Tate.

Monk wasn't even a spectator last week as his team mates earned promotion at Gillingham – he was left with just the radio for comfort as he looked to ensure he was back for one final push.

"I couldn't watch it – I had to listen to it on the radio," said Monk. "I was back in Swansea because I needed some extra training to make sure I was fit for this game.

"I was switching the radio on and off again but I was delighted we got over the finishing line.

"I saw the celebrations on the television – it was class. It was a mixture of relief and joy.

"But the title is on our minds now. I never once felt we wouldn't get promoted – I was confident we would do it.

"The focus since Gillingham has been to beat Yeovil and seal the title.

"I don't care how we play, I just want to get the job done.

"And I can't leave Tatey having all the fun – it will be my job to lift the title. Seriously though, Tatey has stepped in for the last month or so and we have done well under him as captain.

"But I've managed to put together a good campaign personally. I was surprised how quickly I got into things after returning from injury, and to lift the title would be the highlight of my career."
