Have Tottenham Hotspur hindered defender’s career?

Joe Rodon has all but admitted that Spurs boss Antonio Conte has not spoken to him over his future as he wonders whether Rennes will take up their option to purchase the Welsh international for ยฃ20m.

Rodon impressed for Wales during their disappointing World Cup campaign and has attracted some strong praise from various quarters as a result but it still seems as if Conte is not one of the defenders fans with Rodon seemingly frozen out currently in North London more than two years since his move from SA1.

As he returns to France ahead of league football resuming at the end of the World Cup, the defender admits that he does not know what comes next “I have no idea,” he told The Sun. “It is up to Rennes. All I can do is perform, give my best and we will see.”

When asked if he had spoken to Conte, Rodon added “He’s a very busy man. They are in the Champions League and they are non-stop. There are people in the club who deal with me. He sent his wishes, which I was very happy to receive.”

Life in France appears to be suiting yet another graduate of the Swans academy system and he addedย “The French league is very technical with technical layers. The physicality of the Premier League is very big and maybe there is a difference but the French league is also very competitive.

“We are doing really well – the club is in Europe as well and we play against different teams in different countries and it’s only going to make me a better player and give me extra experience of playing in different locations. Hopefully that continues when we return from the World Cup and it is going to be a successful season.”

Rodon has been linked with moves to other Premier League clubs should Rennes decide that they do not want to make the move permanent.

  1. Dreadful move going to Spurs .Only happened because of the greed and shortsightedness of our American owners .Would have admirably suited a mid – table premier league team and was worth far more than 11 million

    • Why do you say it was the American owners? Rodon wanted to go, and if a club offers fair value for a player’s contract you can’t stop him leaving. Rodon saw the big time and had stars in his eyes, the club couldn’t force him to leave. He chose to go.
