Trundle Tips Swans For Premiership Push

As Trundle looks forward to lottery of the end of season play offs for a place in the Premiership, he took some time out to talk to the Evening Post about his former team mates and how he believes that there is no reason why the Swans couldn't be in the same position this time next year.

Trundle has not been the hit he would have hoped at Ashton Gate but that takes nothing away from the fact that his side will have a one in four chance of promotion at the end of this weekend despite falling away from top of the table contention in the last few weeks.  And with his good mate Andy Robinson – Trundle is Robbo's best man this summer – still going strong at the Liberty Trundle has a reason to be interested.

He told the paper "I'm delighted for Swansea because they will be back in a league where they deserve to be next year

"I hope they go on and do well in the Championship and I expect them to. I really believe they can push on and try to get to the Premier League.

"Everything is in place at the club already.

"They have the stadium and the fanbase and I think they are ready financially to step on.

"In the future the Premier League is definitely what Swansea should be aspiring to.

"As the new boys coming up, I think Swansea will be overlooked by a lot of sides," Trundle adds.

"But that can only work in their favour.

"A lot of people underestimated Bristol City at the start of this season.

"When we started well people said we'd soon drop away, and they've carried on saying it all season.

"But we have been right up there all the way through and our form has only dipped a little bit right at the end.

"I think that's because sides have finally become wary of us and have changed their approach against us.

"It's just like Swansea a few years back when we got promoted from League Two and then started brilliantly in League One when nobody expected much from us."

"It's a definite step up from League One to the Championship," he points out.

"You're up against better players, obviously, and a big thing is that teams are a lot more organised.

"There's a thing called ProZone which gives you stats on every other club.

"You go into games knowing how far each player you're up against runs, who has passed to who the most times and what situations a team's goals tend to come from.

"Teams have got a big idea what the opposition is going to do before you start and that's something you have to get used to."

Of course failure to win promotion would mean that Trundle could find himself back at the Liberty next season but in the opposition dressing room, something which has already crossed his mind "But it would be nice to come back in a way because I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to the fans."
