Premiership Class Hails Chairman

It was Jenkins and his fellow directors who took the decision to appoint Roberto back in February last year amongst criticism from some but that faith was repaid this season as he took the Swans into the second flight for the first time since 1984.

And he did it on the backdrop of selling their top scorer last summer and went onto to grab over 80 goals and a club record 92 points into the bargain.  Not bad for a first full season in management.

''We'll go into the Championship not just with one of the best managers in that division, but with one of the best at Premier League level as well." Jenkins told the Evening Post

''Roberto has done very well for us. With the win over Brighton he is averaging two points a game since he joined us and that is remarkable achievement.

''He is a young man who is growing and gaining experience all the time and he is only going to get better. He wants to do well at the next level, as we do, and we will do all we can now to make sure he gets the right tools to work with next year.

''We plan to be competitive in the Championship. We want to play attractive football because giving our supporters something to enjoy is important.

''And we want to show that we deserve to be there because we believe we should be playing at the level.

''It was a little unreal watching the players lift the trophy considering everything that has gone on over the last few weeks,'' Jenkins added.

''And it's a little unreal when you think back to where this club was five years ago.

''It's a relief to get it over with. We've got the trophy and we've won the game so all the negatives which have been flying around are now out of the way.

''We have finished the season in style, but this is where the hard work begins. We have the contracts of existing players to sort out and we have new signings to make so that everything's in place by July 1.''
