Swansea City boss confident of transfer backing

With only just over two weeks until the transfer window opens Russell Martin has said that he is confident of the backing of the Swans board to push on with his promotion bid.

Martin met with both Jake Silverstein and Jason Levien last weekend as both were in SA1 and took in the Swans 1-0 defeat to Norwich and discussions were clearly around transfer plans for the January window which can prove to be so important to managers with ambitions of promotion at the end of the year.

The Swans boss will have his own list of targets although this could change quickly should there be transfer moves for any of his players with speculation over the likes of Michael Obafemi already increasing in recent weeks.

The good news for Martin is that he firmly believes that he will be backed in the window and revealed that the owners are happy with his progress at the club.

“We have real clarity in what we feel we need to improve us and also we have real belief that we have their full support,” said Martin.

“We’ve got real confidence that they’ll help us out in January and hopefully improve the squad.”

Martin also added that the owners are keen to extend his contract at the club even if that did feel more from the owners point of view as much as his.ย  “We’re having initial discussions, they would like to have a chat, Jasonย  Jake and the guys, and we’d love to have that chat as well, but it’s all about timing.”
