Trundle Says He Was Right To Leave

Swansea's former striker says that leaving Swansea was the right thing to do and if Bristol City overcome Hull in the play off final at Wembley it would be very difficult to argue with him.  Trundle will come face to face with former team mate Sam Ricketts at Wembley and for the winner the promised land of the Premiership will beckon.

And, despite the fact that he could end up back at the Liberty next season – as a visiting player – Trundle believes that he made the right decision when he had the chance last summer.  Speaking in today's Western Mail the striker said “If we go up then, yes, it would probably justify me going,

“I wanted to move to play at the highest level possible and it has given me this chance now to go even higher.

“I was so pleased to see the lads do well this year and there’s no regrets over leaving because of that. Football’s not about ifs or buts – when chances come up that are too good to turn down, you don’t turn them down.

“People have said I’ve not been at my best and I agree with them,” he said. “But I’ve got my old confidence back at just the right time.

“I’ve not found it too hard or anything, more like its been a bit stop-start for me, with different formations and getting used to a different way of playing.

“But things have gelled for me nicely in the last few weeks and I feel relaxed and back to my usual self and back to my best.”

Trundle of course experienced play off heartbreak with the Swans two years ago and that disappointment is currently spurring him on to success this afternoon "I said at the time the closest thing you can compare it to is like a family member passing away because that’s how much it hurt,” he said. “I’m not sure I’ll be able to explain that to the rest of the Bristol lads before the game because it’s a personal thing.

“It was the lowest point of my career and I’ll never forget it. I stayed out on the pitch with Robbo and watched Barnsley pick up the trophy just to make the hurt sink in for the next time I got in that situation.

“And now I am here I’ll give absolutely everything to make sure I don’t go through it again.

“I won’t start looking to far ahead because there’s a big challenge for us first,” he added. “But I’ll go out there and enjoy myself and, if we win, then I’ll make sure I’ll enjoy myself in the Premier. I’ve never played at Goodison and to run out there… I’d probably start crying when Z-Cars comes on.”
