A goal from James Hayter was enough to give Doncaster – the best side on the day – the place in the Championship for next season that was still left open.
Over 75,000 were at Wembley for the Yorkshire derby which was settled on 48 minutes when he headed home a corner from the Doncaster right to send their fans into ecstasy.
Leeds tried at times to get themselves back in the game but they were met with a strong Doncaster performance and they could easily have extended their lead rather than lost it.
For Leeds it marked the end of an eventful season that started with them being deducted fifteen points by the football league before winning seven on the bounce at the start to wipe out that deficit and then some more. For Doncaster it was justice as they ended third in League One when the 'regular' season ended three weeks ago.
And for Leeds there is only consolation that they will end up favourites to win promotion next year………
Welcome on board the Championship train Doncaster.
