Ferrie’s Transfer Request -Derby County Beckons?

The player has been the subject of transfer speculation involving both Derby County and Reading whilst there have long since been reports that he was unhappy and unable to settle in the Swansea area.

As an influential part of the side that won the League One title last season the Swans were always hopeful that they could hold onto their man but it is not to be with the midfielder citing "personal reasons" as to why he wants to move.

Speaking on the official site as part of the official statement, Huw Jenkins said

"It's disappointing when a player of Ferrie's calibre wants to leave,

"But the reality of being successful as a team is that individual players benefit from it as well.

"We took a gamble to bring him over from Holland and gave him his chance to perform on the big stage. So from that point of view it's disappointing he now wants to leave.

"We've really looked after him while he's been here and we wanted him to play a big part over the next few years as we progress as a football club.

"But let me make it clear that while we take into account Ferrie's personal reasons for wanting to leave, we won't let him go for less than our £2million valuation.

"The time has gone where we need to sell our best players and I can assure our supporters that all monies brought in will go straight back to Roberto to strengthen the side.

"Fans may be disappointed to see the likes of Ferrie asking for a transfer, but they must have faith in Roberto and the club.

"Just remember that Roberto plucked the likes of Dorus de Vries, Angel Rangel, Guillem Bauza, Andrea Orlandi, Jason Scotland and Ferrie from nowhere last season. And look how well they performed.

"Roberto's already closing in on a number of new targets and I can guarantee you that we will strengthen the team and go into the Championship with a stronger squad next season.''
