Amankwaah joined the League One side after an unhappy two year spell at Swansea where appearances – certainly since Roberto took over – have been limited.
Amankwaah has signed a two year deal at the County Ground and told Swindon's official web site "I'm obviously sad to leave Swansea, but both myself and the manager (Roberto Martinez) felt it was in the best interest of both parties that I had a new challenge.
"My first team chances were limited last season and I didn't want the same thing to happen again next season.
"I could have sat in the stand and just picked up my wages, but I want to play football."
"I came to Swansea looking to play, but although I made quite a few appearances in my first season it just hasn't worked out.
"Every player gets a blip in their career and I hope I can find my best form again at Swindon.
"I feel I am going to a good club. They are looking to build something special there and hopefully I can play a big part.''
