Derby County Manager Urges Swans To Be Sensible

Jewell is also reported as being unhappy that Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins made the Rams first bid for the player public – slightly hypocritical considering most things that Derby have done in their pursuit of Bodde have been public and maybe it's a case of do what we say rather than do what we do.

The worst side in Premiership history have made two bids for Bodde – both dismissed without thought by Swansea who are holding out for £2m for the player they signed last summer from Den Haag.

And having re-opened their pursuit of the player after publically stating the chase was over last weekend it seems that they are not going to be put off.  However, the Swans fee is a minimum amount that they want – part of which is driven by the 50% sell on clause that exists in Ferrie Bodde's contract.

Jewell told the Western Mail “The door isn’t shut, we would love to sign Bodde and if Swansea can be sensible about a price we could do a deal,” said Jewell

“We watched Bodde all last season and he was Swansea’s best player by a distance.

“It’s been going backwards and forwards and there’s a lot of work to do yet.

“Swansea obviously want to keep their best players, but we were disappointed when they made our offer public.”

Reports at the weekend also suggested that following Derby's reported cooling on the player Ferrie would be withdrawing his transfer request but this has yet to be confirmed by the club and Jewell's comments is likely to continue his unrest.

Whatever happens from here though it becomes increasingly evident that Derby want the player but one day the message may get home that the Swans have a figure in their head and it needs to be met whether it be by straight payment or cash plus players.

Get on with it Jewell and stop moaning….
