Martinez On Bodde And Derby County

Bodde handed in a transfer request last month to the Swans with interest from Derby County seemingly having turned his head and made him want away from Swansea.

That was a belief matched yesterday when quotes attributed to Ferrie Bodde said that he wanted to leave Swansea and asked them to strike a deal with Derby.   Quotes that were taken by Roberto with a pinch of salt and he stated his belief that they were taken out of context.

Speaking to the Evening Post on the summer's long drawn out subject, Roberto said "I'm sure these words have been taken out of context

"I think it might be part of an old, big interview where Ferrie might have said he would like us to consider it if a big club came in for him.

"But going from that to saying he wants to leave is taking it out of context, and this story counts for nothing as far as I'm concerned.

"We know there is an English agent who is trying to get Ferrie out of Swansea and unfortunately that's the nature of the game," Martinez added.

"But it's good to know the way certain agents work. They can do a quick deal and get a lot of money, but slowly clubs will not want to be involved with them.

"In the long term you find out who the good agents are and which ones are bad for the game."

"Ferrie will go that far, but in the long term," he said. "For now a bit of continuity will do him good.

"If a Premier League club came in now, it would be hard to stop him going, but when the challenge is the same, why should you go anywhere else?

"When you go to a new club you have to adapt to a new style, new players, new fans and a new manager. When that club is at the same level, I don't think that's a good thing.

"Ferrie has agents ringing him all the time and he's confused. It's a compliment for him that another club is interested, but he's also excited about playing for Swansea in the Championship.

"I don't know why there's a team who keep talking about one of our players," he said. "We never put anything out on this and I think the facts prove we're not a club who do our business in public.

"Ferrie was told to put in a transfer request but he never knew what it meant to do that," Martinez said.

"Since then everyone has shown him what it means and Ferrie has apologised.

"He has apologised to me, to Swansea City and to all the fans over the meaning of the transfer request.

"In Holland if you put a transfer request in, you're asking for a move to be considered by the club if there's an opportunity. That's all it means.

"But in the British game it's a stronger thing. It's more harsh towards the club and the fans and Ferrie realises that now.

"He doesn't need to withdraw the request officially because in my eyes he has already done that with his phone call to me.

"To me he's just another part of the Swansea squad pushing to do well in the Championship."
