Swans Warn Ferrie Off Derby County Move

The sags of the summer has been the worst side in Premiership history and their dogged pursuit of the Swans midfielder with the latest reports last week stating that they were prepared to match the Swans valuation with a bid of "up to £2 million".

But that has not yet been enough for the Swans to make their decision and accept the offer and they either seem determined to hold onto their man or they are hopeful that reported interest from the likes of Reading and Sunderland may develop into something more.

Ferrie himself has been quoted as saying he wants to leave but the Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has questioned whether that would be the right move for him as reports surface of the player being led by a new agent with his long term Dutch agent having resigned over the transfer saga.

Speaking in today's News of the World, Jenkins said "Ferrie is settled at Swansea and clearly enjoys playing here – there is no guarantee he's going to even be starting at Derby.

"When you go to a new club you have to adapt to a new style, new players, new fans and a new manager's way of thinking.

"We'd like to think he understands that and that's why we believe he can stay with us.

"We are still pursuing every angle to make sure Ferrie will be here next season.  It's our job to keep our best players and he's certainly one of our jewels.

"Roberto is continuing to work on the development of this squad ready for next season regardless of whether Ferrie stays or not.   If he does decide to leave he will only be leaving on our terms.

"We want to keep this team together but we can't stand still.  Losing some players was not what we had planned for but our squad is still in good shape.   Ferrie will go far in the game but he's still only learning and will only become a better player under Roberto.  A bit of continuity will do him good."

A team that progressed last season or a team that won once all season?  Hmm……
