Jenkins ‘Disappointed’ By Derby County Saga

When you consider that the Rams have had two offers turned down for the player and a third – still short of the club's up front valuation – on the table at the Swans they know an awful lot about what the player wants as Jenkins' counterpart Adam Pearson keeps telling us.

Pearson told us the player had said he wanted to go to Derby way before the player actually allegedly came out and said it whilst Pearson also knows that Bodde is looking for houses in the Derby area, a strange practice when nothing has been agreed in terms of a move to the Championship side.

And through it all Swansea have remained consistent in their views on the transfer – they value Bodde at £2m bare minimum and that they would like to retain the players services in Swansea if at all possible.

But as Derby feel backlash from other clubs with whom they have been involved this summer they continue to look to unsettle the player even more with their very public pursuit.

And some of the methods of that pursuit have clearly annoyed Jenkins who told the Western Mail "“I’ve not been disappointed by what people have said, that’s the nature of football. People can try and put pressure on you in a situation, but I’m quite comfortable with that. We’re all experienced enough to deal with that we’ve just got to get on with our priorities of bringing players in to the club and not letting players go.

“We’ve got two or three weeks left before the players report back. Roberto is on a week off and I hope he takes a well-earned rest because he’s due it, but over the next two to three weeks we will be bringing in two or three more players to strengthen the squad further and getting the right shape for the start of the season.

"Players signs contracts in good faith, clubs accept that, but there are probably bigger issues here where players should be seeing out contracts they decided to sign at the time.

“Risks are taken by clubs when they give out contracts – players could get injured in the first week of a new agreement and the club still have to pay that wage.

“There are quite a lot of issues coming out of people making statements, but we are just one of a number of clubs who have to deal with a situation like it.”

And of course one of a number of clubs who have to deal with Derby County who, just to remind them, start the season with exactly the same record at exactly the same level as Swansea City.   Anybody remember what happened to Leeds last season…….?
