Swansea v Cardiff City In Virgin Top Ten

Unsurprisingly the fixture ranks in with some of the other Championship derbies next season – the Sheffield Derby, Norwich v Ipswich and Preston v Blackpool whilst some other mouth watering clashes have been selected – Nottingham Forest v Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham v Wolves to name but two.

And it will be no surprise to anyone in South Wales to see the clash at the Liberty in November as part of this top 10, it will be just about 10 years to the day since the sides last clashed in Swansea when the Swans came from a goal down to win 2-1, Matthew Bound grabbing the winner in the last minute.

The Virgin Media report says "Nearly a decade has passed since these bitter South Wales rivals last faced each other and there will be no love lost when the teams clash at the Liberty Stadium in late November. Both clubs had seasons to savour last term as Swansea stole a march on the League One title and Cardiff stunned the footballing world by reaching the FA Cup final before eventually succumbing to Portsmouth. Survival is now the main priority for the Swans, although recent history suggests Roberto Martinez's men should fare well in this derby."

The full list of Virgin Media's top 10 clashes of the upcoming Championship season are: –

Birmingham v Sheffield United – 9th August
Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United – 18th October
Derby County v Nottingham Forest – 1st November
Swansea v Cardiff – 29th November
Norwich v Ipswich – 6th December
Charlton v QPR – 26th December
Nottm F v Sheffied Wednesday – 27th January
Crystal P v Reading – 21st March
Birmingham v Wolves – 4th April
Preston v Blackpool – 11th April

It will certainly be interesting to see how Sky Sports agree with that list when the live TV fixtures are announced.
