Corrupt Chairmen

to our current position in the third with only one promotion (via the play-off) four years ago to ease the downward spiral. Last season we finished in our lowest ever league position of 13th in the lowest division. Despite being one of the country’s richest men (in the top 500 – richer than the chairmen of West Hamm, Arsenal, Villa and Chelsea for example) we have not paid a transfer fee for a player for over two years. While the fans of Plymouth Argyle feel that developing our own youngsters is important, a team does require some experience as well. Instead we rely on loanees (eight last season), short term contracted free agents (four last season) and other teams’ cast offs. We have even just re-signed a player we released two years ago because he wasn’t good enough to get into our team. Plymouth have a supportive City Council who wish to build a new stadium for Argyle to play in but McCauley doesn’t want to play ball – refusing even to talk to the council because he wants total control of the place. Instead we continue to play home matches in a decrepid ground that has 11 years left on it’s lease. We used to consider Home Park to be one of the better stadiums outside the Premier League – now we wonder if it would pass the ground regulations to get into the Conference. We go to grounds such as Kidderminster and realise theirs is better than ours….. We are planning (another) anti McCauley protest via the local press, the fanzines (“Rub of the Greens” and “Hoof!”) and via the p@soti (Plymouth Argyle Supporters on the internet) site. Our next action is a protest at the home match with Brighton on Sunday September 5th. We will be boycotting the main section of the ground – opposite the main stand where the tv cameras go, to the right of the away supporters enclosure. This will hopefully have the effect of a large section of empty ground right in front of the stand to be seen on television. We will still be there to support our team but in other parts of the ground. Any support from other third division fans would be most welcome – especially Brighton fans who we play that day and are well used to this type of protest. Having supported Brighton on their “fans united day” and currently involved with Barnet’s ground protest, I hope others will support us. Thanks for reading – and please pass this on Steve Nicholson
