Last Minute Shocker

The goal came just as it had looked as if John Hollins’ team were going to secure a valuable away point. The result was especially tough on hero Roger Freestone, who had held up the Londoners almost single handedly all afternoon. And the ex Chelsea shot stopper did his international chances no harm according to watching Wales No 2 Mark Bowen. He declared: “I thought Roger was very impressive and that the last minute goal certainly wasn’t down to him. “Out in Belarus he had every right to feel aggrieved not to be playing after his performance against Brazil and he stated his case again in this match. “Sparky has said that all the places are up for grabs in the Welsh team and Freestone’s performance certainly spoke volumes for his ability.” Millwall boss Keith Stevens was quick to add his praise. Stevens said: “The keeper kept Swansea in it, but I thought my young Lions showed real spirit.” Swansea chief Hollins was devastated, though. He moaned: “We should have had a point here and could have scored on the break. It’s clear we need a striker and we badly missed Steve Watkin. “We’ve still got plenty of confidence, but we need to buy someone who can put chances away.” There was trouble off the field before kick off when a group of Swansea and Millwall thugs clashed near London Bridge. Police raced to the scene to separate the rival gangs. Burnley and Preston in the capital for matches at Crystal Palace and QPR respectively were also thought to be involved.
