Benda out for the rest of the season – Keiran Westwood?

It’s been confirmed that Swans keeper Steven Benda will miss the rest of the season after further scans have shown he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament.

The German was always facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines but will now have to undergo surgery in a bid to be ready for the new season in August.

Perhaps it’ll focus the minds a little more on sourcing a free agent goalkeeper with only Lewis Webb to rely on as back up. There are players out there and discussions around those are taking place – something which Jason Levein alluded to last night.

One of those could be Keiren Westwood – vastly experienced at 38 – who is without a club after making eight appearances for QPR last term.

The former Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland stopper has been mentioned on social media as a target but as always only time will tell.

His sort of experience may be desirable to Russell Martin as support to Andy Fisher who will undoubtedly be number one going forward.

Hopefully he has the used his time on the bench to learn and develop?
