Former England goalkeeper says Swans results unacceptable

Perhaps Sky Sports were rather disappointed that the fixture they chose for Monday night’s live coverage turned into a bottom half of the table slog between Rotherham and Swansea City.

And undoubtedly the people who tuned in with little other live football on Monday night would have been similarly unimpressed with the quality of play on offer at the Swansea.com Stadium as the Millers were good value for at least a point.

But the main talking point between the pundits after match was where exactly Swansea are going so badly wrong and the focus was on the manager after a downbeat interview with plenty of excuses.

Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson and former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison were in the studio and both had their own views of not just the game but the current predicament down in SA1.

Robinson bluntly stated that a draw for Russell Martin’s team wasn’t good enough and that with the players at the manager’s disposal a point is not enough at home to a Rotherham side battling the drop.

Morrison was more sympathetic towards the manager believing he was a good coach but was struggling with the lack of acquisitions during the January transfer window.

Robinson also stated that the manager’s demeanour and attitude post match would struggle to motivate the Swansea City players going forward.

It comes as Sky Sports commentator Andy Hinchliffe said this: โ€œSwansea have to be very careful.

“If they lose Ryan Manning, Russell Martin in the summerโ€ฆ that club could implode. Theyโ€™ve got to sort it out quickly.โ€

Lots of work to be done.

  1. Robinson was spot on.
It is always easy to claim lack of signings in January contributed to the standard on show โ€ฆ but the players involved had all performed far better in 2022.

  2. Personally I agree with Andy hinchcliffe and Paul Robinson here. Swansea need to get this summer transfer window spot on or the club will drastically go down hill by Christmas with them looking for a new manager as I do feel R M is out of his depth and not the man for the job. He has had over 80 games and we are still looking over our shoulders with no signs of improving any time soon. I do feel that the owners and Julian winter have a big part of the blame also it’s a very badly poorly run football club from top to bottom with changes now needed.

  3. RM is prone to blaming others for his failures. To blame lack of transfer dealings in January is clearly a way of diverting the pressure off himself. RM has had ample support in purchasing ‘his recommended players’ who, are quite frankly, not good enough to play ‘ the Swansea way’. Having watched Monday nights game, the side is clearly lacking confidence, direction on the field, an out and out ball winner in midfield.
Why has Piroe stopped scoring goals…..because the ball is either passed sideways or backwards, rarely forward!!!!
We have never been a ‘rich club’ financially but have produced many excellent players from within, to then sell on, to keep the club afloat.
Swansea City FC is a football club, run as a business, it’s not run as a charity, why should the ‘American’ owners invest time after time and make a loss….would we as supporters of the club….I think not.
The players are already planning their summer holidays and can’t wait for the season to end…..just like RM.

  4. Cooper could see what was happening or rather not happening, and left for a club willing to invest in the club. RM is safe as he is doing what the owners want, develope players to sell on

  5. Dead right about imploding…this feels exactly like when we sank just as quickly to the bottom of the league 12 years ago. Yanks bleeding the club of all the cash…where is the money from Flynn Downes? Dan James? Joe Rodon….

  6. They are shocking I wouldn’t accept free tickets to watch that rubbish stop making excuses the takeover has been proved big mistake don’t blame the directors at all the Americans don’t know nothing about the football in this they should stick Mickey Mouse and Goofy
